The highly anticipated third installment of Disney’s “The Chronicles of Narnia” film franchise is underway and has been scheduled for release on Dec. 10, 2010 according to its official page at The Internet Movie Database.

Based on the bestselling fiction book series of the same name by Irish-born British novelist, theologian and Christian apologist C.S. Lewis, the film will follow the adventures of young Edmund (actor Skandar Keynes) and Lucy (Georgie Henley) Pevensie and their troublesome cousin Eustace Scrubb.

The three find themselves re-immersed in the exotic world of Narnia after falling into a mysterious painting.

Together, they must board the Dawn Treader ship and embark on a dangerous quest to find the seven lost lords of Narnia and eventually reach Aslan’s country.

Andrew Adamson, who directed “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” (2005) and “Prince Caspian” (2008) has stepped into the role of assistant producer as Director Michael Apted of “Amazing Grace” (2006) fame takes the reins of this next installment.

“Dawn Treader” Co-Producer Mark Johnson recently told ComingSoon.net, “It’s a whole new franchise. I think it’s really benefitting from it. It’s a slightly different look.”

Johnson placed the film in the same league as Producer/Director Ray Harryhausen’s 1958 film “The Seventh Voyage of Sinabad,” noting, “It’s in that same league, and they [the Narnia characters] go from island to island having adventures.”

Actor Ben Barnes is set to reprise his role as the noble Prince Caspian, who will eventually become king when all is said and done, and acclaimed actor Liam Neeson will once again serve as the voice of the beloved Aslan.

Other characters appearing in the film include the brave warrior mouse Reepicheep (voiced by actor Eddie Izzard) and Tavros the Minotaur (actor Shane Rangi).

There has been no official release of a trailer for “Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” However, fans can view still images from filming and production shots here at Total Film and at Cinematical.
