Album Review: The Almighty G-Side-The Prequel

Ever since I hear Jack on the Yunion’s compilation, Genocide, I’ve been sure to buy everything he was featured on…which hasn’t been much other than other Yuinon compilations and his extremely rare album, 3-E-O, The Path Volume II. There’s just something about Jack’s voice and his delivery. Rappers always brag about the sickness of their flow, but Jack, to me, is the real deal. When he says that the average rapper can’t compete with him, just looking at what’s out there on the charts, I can’t help but agree. When I found out that Jack had reformed his band the Almighty G-side, I was excited. Then when I found out I could get their latest project for free, I was overjoyed because I love free stuff. The Prequel is good, and definitely on par with Jack’s solo efforts probably due to the production (by Tone) and the delivery (most of which fell to Jack.)

I hope I get to hear more of the other band members (Mr. Ran and Young Tone) on the double length album that’s due to drop soon.

Agony–A hard-hitting anthem about having empathy for others and loving your neighbors as yourself through their struggles

Don’t Bother Me- This song is sick just because of the jazzy hook

The Movement- The G-Side’s response to critics in the mainstream

Chocolate- The G-Side’s treatise on why they appreciate black women
